Chalk It Up

Yes, it's true... time to ditch those post-it notes or magnetic pads of papers to do all your listing of needs!  I don't know about you but my biggest struggle is usually a pen.  Here on Emma's lovely blog of recipes and randomness, she shares a project she did with her refrigerator, that I might just have to do!! What is it you may ask... she made the front of her fridge into a chalkboard! Genius I tell ya... and not only for the lists but for the kids!  Here's a little peak of Emma's actual fridge and what she did, while also glancing at a few other similar ideas as well.  What you decide to do, is totally up to you!!

Here's how Emma did it:

1. Buy a used, but good condition refrigerator off of craigs list.

2. Using a hand-sander, take the glossy texture off the front doors of the unit. Be sure to remove the handles first so you don't have to work around them.

3. Paint a layer of primer on the doors. I used a primer that works well with metals. I just described my project to good people at Lowe's and they pointed me in the right direction of primers.

4. Paint two layers of chalkboard paint on the doors, letting it dry between each layer. Then put the handles back on and: Ta-Da, a DIY chalkboard refrigerator is born!
Be sure to lightly drag chalk all across your new chalkboard surface and then lightly wipe off before writing any words, otherwise it will be very difficult to erase.

Or if you are heading back to school, a small refrigerator would do too!
